Elisabetha Maria Lutz was born on December 11th, 1908 in Neudorf Saskatchewan. She was referred to as Lizzie by family and friends. Lizzie was the first of ten children born to John and Eva Lutz. She spent her younger years working on a dairy farm near Regina for Dr. McCusker. Her first trip to Mistatim was in 1934 when she, and a group of others, walked in from Peesane.
In 1936 Lizzie married Rienholt Lutz in Neudorf, SK and they became a family of four with Rienholt’s two children, Otto and Alvena. Lizzie gave birth to her first son Garfield in 1937 and second son Orville, followed two years later in 1939. The family moved to Mistatim shortly before the birth of their third son, Eldon, in 1942. The family was complete in 1944 with the birth of their son, Elwood. They settled on the family farm just south of Mistatim and in 1949 built a new house. In 1953 they lost their youngest son Elwood, to cancer.
In 1967 she travelled with her husband to the Expo in Montreal. Lizzie lost her husband four years later. Shortly after she took up painting which she would continue to do for a good twenty years until her eyesight no longer allowed her to. One of her paintings toured Saskatchewan with the Saskatchewan Arts Council for a year. In 1982 she left the family farm and moved to Mistatim to live with her son Garfield.
Lizzie enjoyed gardening, quilting, painting, crocheting and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was an active member of the Lutheran Church in Mistatim. Throughout her life Lizzie travelled to Vancouver, Montreal, California, and Europe.
In 1995 Lizzie lost her son Eldon, to cancer. In 2008 she celebrated her 100th birthday in Mistatim with family and friends. At the age of 101 she moved to McKay Tower in Tisdale. She lived on her own until the fall of 2011, when she moved to NewMarket Manor.
Lizzie passed from this life peacefully, on March 13th 2016 at the age of 107. She was predeceased by her husband; Rienholt, four of her children; Otto, Alvena, Eldwood, Eldon and by 5 brothers and 3 sisters. She is survived by her sons; Orville (Donna), Garfield, her brother; Wilfred (Marjorie), 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
