Cora was born in the Spooner district on January 11, 1923 to Orville and Ilydia Craig. Cora had 2 sisters, Donna and Ruth, 3 brothers, Bruce, Denton and Blaine. Mom’s family homestead was west of Codette, she attended the Elkhorn School until she was 17.
On March 2, 1950, Mom married Dad and they lived on the farm by Brooksby. They had great neighbors and many lifelong friends. Mom and Dad were blessed with 7 children. Glen, Holly, Candis, Lindsay, Cameron, Colin and Donna. In 1966, Mom and Dad sold the farm and moved to Tisdale.
Mom enjoyed her garden and she had many beautiful flowers (pansies and spring lilacs were her favourite). She loved sitting on the deck watching the birds and enjoying the yard. Her favourite times were when her children and grandchildren came to visit. Mom enjoyed cooking, baking and canning. I remember Saturdays were the best because there was always fresh baked bread and cinnamon buns. There were always cans of peaches, pears and apples. But I think everyone’s favourites were the butter tarts.
In 1980 her son Lindsay was killed in a tragic accident; A very sad and difficult time for the whole family.
In summer of 2000 we had a celebration of Mom and Dad’s 50th anniversary along with Aunt Ruth and Uncle Len’s 60th anniversary. There was lots of family and friends and many laughs shared.
In December of 2000, Mom unexpectantly lost her husband of 50 years, a sad and difficult time. She continued to live in her house until it became too hard for her to manage on her own. In 2012 she moved into McKay Tower. She loved doing puzzles, word searches and knitting.
With Mom’s failing health, this past fall she moved into Newmarket Place. On Saturday April 2, 2016, Mom passed away surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Left to cherish Cora’s memory is her son Glen (Dianne), grandson Chris (Patience), grandson Lindsay (Pam), great granddaughter (Marisol); daughter Holly, grandson Terry (Melanie), great granddaughters (Alexandria, Emily), granddaughter Maureen , great grandchildren (Maxim, Bella and Lucia), grandson Craig; daughter Candis; son Cameron (Carrie); son Colin (Darcy), granddaughter Kayla (Jeremy), great grandsons (Hunter, Damon), grandsons Riley and Curtis; daughter Donna (Pat), granddaughters Sharon (Tyler), Rachele and Bailey; sisters-in-law Yvette Craig and Irene Jones; as well as many extended family and friends.
