Obituary for Lawrence George "Larry" Salamon

    Lawrence George "Larry" Salamon
Lawrence George Salamon passed away peacefully on March 23, 2017 at the age of 90. Dad was born on July 27, 1926. He was the eldest of five growing up on a small, mixed farm near Fort Qu’Appelle. Dad was predeceased by his parents John and Josephine (nee Tomecko) and siblings Mary (Ed Streisel), Leona (Don Duggan) and is survived by his sister Teresa (Stenerson) and his brother Jerry (Gwen).
Dad married Jeanette Riou on June 30, 1955. To them were born James (Jill) children: Christopher (Kari), Charlotte (Chris), Blake, Caitlin (Aaron), Allison; Michelle (Jacques†) children: Philippe, Robert (Amber), Denise; John (Grace); and Richard. A fifth child, Gerard, died shortly after birth. Mom and Dad were further blessed with many great grandchildren (Ebony, Emma, Jack, Julia, Penn and Stephen). Dad earned two degrees from the University of Saskatchewan: a B.A. and a B.Ed. He taught in several small communities throughout the province, moving to Tisdale in 1956 to teach at TUCS. He retired as principal in 1982. He served his community well - twice as a member of Town Council, with the Royal Canadian Legion and through the Knights of Columbus and various other civic committees.
Throughout much of his life, the cabin at Kip became a place of sojourn where he could enjoy family and angling. The simpler and quieter life at the lake appealed to him greatly. He pursued his love of the outdoors through hunting and fishing trips with those who became some of his dearest, lifelong friends.
Mom and Dad were avid gardeners, with Dad taking special pride in his gladioli. He enjoyed time in his shop with his many varied woodworking projects. Throughout much of his life he also enjoyed cooking and preparation of foods in such ways as sausage-making, sauerkraut, smoking fish and wine-making.
Dad was a lifelong learner and encouraged his children in their pursuit of education. He read widely, and was most frequently found in the evenings seated in the kitchen reading or completing a crossword or Sudoku puzzle. In his later years, Dad seemed most pleased when sharing moments of gathering with his children and extended family.
