Victor Ward Lajoie was born in Blind River, Ontario on September 10, 1915 to parents Henri and Antoinette Lajoie. He was the seventh of nine children. In 1939, Victor met Olive Bigler at a logging camp in Clemenceau, Saskatchewan. They were married on August 5, 1941 and two sons, Ronald and Neil, were born.
Vic joined the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in 1942. He was sent to British Columbia, where he was a driver instructor. After a short time there, he was sent to England, where he drove truck to move war supplies until the war was over and he was discharged in 1946. After the war, Vic and Olive moved to the Steen area and began farming. For 11 winters, they worked for The Pas Lumber Company. In 1965, the family moved to Bjorkdale, where Olive and Vic ran the post office until their retirement in 1979. They continued farming for five more years after that, and then purchased a home in Tisdale in 1988 where they would enjoy the rest of their days together. Vic enjoyed gardening, a good game of cards, and always making sure there was a fresh loaf of bread in the house.
Vic was predeceased by his loving wife Olive, parents Henri and Antoinette, and eight siblings.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his two sons, Ronald and Neil (Brenda), and grandchildren Shawna and Reagan.
