    Obituary for Merle Gilbert Goeson

    Merle Gilbert Goeson
Merle was born March 22, 1957 to Genevieve and Cecil, in Fort McLeod, Alberta; he was the seventh of eight children. He spent his youth exploring the hills of Bellevue in the Crowsnest Pass. He also enjoyed helping his dad disassemble cars in his scrap yard. He attended school there until grade eight. In 1972 moved to Nanton with his parents where he would help his dad refinish antique furniture in his parent's store. Through his younger years, Merle worked on the rigs as well as in construction; with construction becoming his job of choice. He enjoyed seeing the fruits of his labor after a long days work.
He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed helping friends and family with home projects and family gatherings. Merle continued to refinish furniture, when time and his health allowed. He moved to Devon in the early 1980's. It was there in 1985 that he met Delores, who was living in Edmonton at the time. They lived in Devon until 1991, later moving to Edmonton after Merle's second back surgery. During their life in Edmonton, Merle continued to work in construction. In 1999 their daughter Grace was born. In 2007, deciding to get out of the city, they embarked on their life journey in Tisdale. Merle's health issues continued. He underwent neck surgery in 2015 and soon after developed gallbladder problems. After what seemed like never ending infections and procedures he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in late 2016
Merle was predeceased by his parents, his sisters Sandra and Debbie and brother Terry; as well as his in-laws, Paul and Anna Taphorn.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Delores , daughter Grace, sisters: Myrna (Sheldon) Annette, Val Kilmury, his brothers Blaine (Debra) Goeson and James (Jenny) Goeson, in-laws: Margaret (Lucien) Bussiere, Mary (Tony) Gamboa, Wilfred Taphorn, Pattye Taphorn, Dorothy (Dave) Frey, Don Taphorn and Lynda (Chester) Higgins; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and special friends.
