    Obituary for Florence Annie Kohl

    Florence Annie Kohl
Florence Annie (Gavelin) Kohl was born on July 7, 1939 in Kincaid, Saskatchewan. She lived on the family farm at McCord, Saskatchewan. She attended all of her school years at McCord School. Her young years were spent playing sports like softball and curling, playing on the farm and being with family. She was an active young person on the family farm helping milk cows, working in the kitchen and general chores that she could help with.
Florence met Leslie Kohl while attending high school. They soon became a couple, fell in love and married on July 4, 1959. They spent their early year’s together playing cards with family and friends, attending dances and enjoying their new married life. Les was working for the railway, so they began their married life at the station in Fife Lake, Saskatchewan.
Florence and Les welcomed their daughter Gloria on April 15, 1960 and son Larry two years later on Feb 12. 1962 Florence’s children were her pride and joy and as a family they enjoyed many outings. Spending quality time as a family, and making precious memories was most important to Florence. Railway life moved them frequently to many stations in Saskatchewan as Les moved up the ranks in the railway system.
She entered the workforce as a nurse’s aide at Lafleche hospital. Florence held many jobs over the course of the years as they moved to many towns across Saskatchewan. One of their moves took them to Melfort in 1972. She began working at the Coop in the clothing department, held jobs at the Bus depot, Coffee Cabin, and at Parkland hospital. They spent a number of years in Melfort, which saw both children graduate from high school, and many fond memories with family and friends were made. In 1983 Florence and Les moved to Carman Manitoba. Once getting the house set up, she set off to enter the work force again. She worked as a potatoe grader at the local processing plant. In 1988, they made their final railway move to Portage, Manitoba. She worked at the Manitoba Development Centre for the disabled. Les retire in 1993 and their final retirement move to Tisdale happened in 1996. Florence took pride in her home, and always worked very hard to maintain it. She was always up for the challenge of renovating and certainly was there every step of the way helping Les accomplish their vision.
Once they moved to Tisdale, she lived to entertain family and friends in her home, always wanting to feed everyone. Being closer to the children and grandchildren in Tisdale was so very special for her. She loved to attend the grandchildren’s events and had a great sense of pride as she watched them at their activities. Her yard and flowers were very special to her and she spent countless hours looking after her flowers and yard. She loved to have a conversation with neighbours over the fence, in the yard or over a cup of coffee.
Predeceased by her parents Lillian & Eric Gavelin, brother Gordon Gavelin, sister Edith Gavelin, brother-in-law Frank Ager and father and mother- in-law, Joe and Tina Kohl.
She leaves to mourn her husband Les of 58 years; her daughter Gloria (Al) Jellicoe; grandson, Tommy (Lesley) Patrick, Autumn, Violet; granddaughter’s: Allison (Randall) Hudson, Declan, Leslie (Tanner) Cruz, and Kristine; son Larry (Maureen); granddaughter Jocelyn; brother Leonard (Bernice) Gavelin; sisters; Sylvia Dixon (Bud), Alice (Dwayne)McLean and sister in Law, Joyce Ager; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
