    Obituary for Anita Twarowski

    Anita Twarowski
Anita Twarowski, aged 74, passed away peacefully the morning of September 28, 2017 in Prince Albert Saskatchewan. She was born May 2, 1943 in Duck Lake, Saskatchewan to the late Jean Benoit (JB) & Lorinne Legare. Growing up in Mistatim, Saskatchewan, Anita was known for her love of dancing and her strength of character.

Anita spent her early years on a farm near Mistatim and loved to ride horses and spend time with the animals. Her dad nicknamed her “Skipper.” Her early education involved attending a variety of country schools in the area as her mother was a school teacher, so Anita and Arnold travelled with their mother. She started school at about 4 years old as she was insistent on going, so they finally just allowed her to attend. She attended Deldale School, Motion School, Pine Creek and Brierview, as well as a short term at Duck Lake Convent. She then attended Mistatim School when her family moved into Mistatim and began operating Legare’s General Store. She finished her Grades 11 and 12 in Tisdale as the Mistatim School closed down during her high school years. She was crowned Carnival Queen in Grade 11 at Tisdale High School. As a teenager, she loved listening to 45 rpms that she would buy from the local café.
Upon graduation Anita began her career as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse in Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Her career was important to her as it meant independence; and if you knew Anita, she certainly was independent. It was here she formed the friendships that lasted her lifetime. Summers were spent camping with friends, and of course countless trips up north to Mistatim. She spent the next 30 years on the farm in Weyburn; working, raising three children, as well as raising pedigreed dogs, and in her spare time she could be found working on a craft, researching dogs, playing Scrabble, or in the garden. There is consensus that Anita made the best garden fresh hot meals ever eaten out of the back of a pick-up truck at dusk at harvest.

In her retirement years she spent many lovely summers at Marean Lake, painting, laughing and hosting countless friends and family. Her 5 nephews learned to swim there and enjoyed cruising around in her golf cart and late nights at the fire pit eventually retiring to their monkey house sleeping quarters. After she moved back to Mistatim she was known for supporting the community in various ways such as the creation of a quilting club or the rejuvenation of the local library. As a teller of hard truths, her advice was sought out by many and you always knew where you stood with Anita. Yet, she was equally renowned for her sense of fun; she enjoyed a good prank and delighted in hearing about the exploits of local characters. We can see her now smiling and shaking her head. She always had a dog with her, the latest being her beloved Alfie – how happy he will be to see her. Anita, strong-willed and opinionated, will always be remembered as a friendly, caring, and giving person who loved her family, animals, and crafts! Anita sewed, knit, painted and quilted an abundance of beautiful and special gifts for family and friends over the years that bless our homes.

Anita is survived by her husband Ed, her son Dean and his wife Catherine along with their daughter Brooklyn, her son Tyler and his wife Lesley along with their son Jackson and daughter Alaina, her daughter Dana, her brother Gene and his wife Annette along with their sons Avery, Marlin, Garrett, Boyce, and Quinn. She was predeceased by her father Jean Benoit Legare and her mother Lorinne Legare, as well as her older brother Arnold Legare.

Anita was equally gentle and tough and will be remembered for the light-hearted application of generosity, for no other reason than it was the right thing to do. Anita will be forever in our hearts.
