    Obituary for Ferguson Scott Allan

    Ferguson Scott Allan
Ferg was born in Tisdale on May 15, 1930, the only child of Billie (Gladys Lillian) nee Lamb and
Roslin Brown Scott. He was baptized Roslin Elliott Ferguson Scott. Ferg's early years were
spent in the home of his maternal grandparents, T.H.P. and Caroline Lamb, surrounded by his
mother and his many Lamb aunts, uncles and cousins. Following his mother's marriage to
Alex Allan in 1942, Ferg was adopted by Alex and his name was changed to Ferguson Scott
Allan. Ferg left school at sixteen when he moved to northern Manitoba to work for his uncles,
Tom Lamb, and Gordon Hoffos. It was hard work, hauling fish across the ice in winter, then
freighting supplies overland following spring breakup. Ferg often reminisced about his years
in Wabowden, calling it the happiest time of his life.
In 1951, Ferg joined the RCAF and was stationed in Centralia, ON. His dream of flying was
short-lived, however, when it was discovered he didn't have night vision. Ferg returned to
Tisdale in 1953, where a cousin introduced him to her friend, Beryl King, originally from Quill Lake.
Ferg and Beryl were married in Saskatoon on April 15, 1955. Michelle, the first of their four children, was born
late that year, followed by Vaughan in 1957, Susan in 1960 and Christine in 1962. Ferg worked for Winnipeg
Paint and Glass, then Ashdown's. In 1961, the family moved to Tisdale where Ferg initially worked for his
uncles, Bert and Bob Lamb, at Lamb Hardware. Ferg eventually bought out his uncles, to become sole owner
of the store in 1968. Ferg retired in 1986, selling the business to his cousin, Richard Lamb, who continued to
run the store until it closed this year.
Ferg was active in the community, serving on town council, on the volunteer fire department, as a member
and president of the Kinsmen club and as a Worshipful Master of the Masons. He sold Christmas cakes and
puddings for the MS Society and delivered Meals on Wheels. Ferg also sat on the board of directors of Sasko
Park Lodge and Kipabiskau Regional Park for many years.
Although Ferg never finished high school, he was a lifelong learner and avid reader. He also instilled in his
    children the importance of education.
Ferg passed away on May 12, 2018, following a brief hospitalisation. He was three days short of his 88th
    birthday.
Ferg is survived by Beryl, his wife of sixty-three years; his four children, Michelle (Hal Wright), Vaughan (Linda
McNally), Susan (Dan Senft) and Christine Allan (Rob Benning). His nine grandchildren, Leah (John Butt), Iain
Wright (Michaela), Eve (Derek Edmonstone); Lynn Allan; Christina Senft (Brandon Kijewski), David Senft,
Hayden Senft, Graham Senft; Thomas Allan Benning; and seven great grandchildren Rene and Jesse Butt,
Liam and Addison Wright; Wyatt and Sawyer Edmonstone; and Emmett Randall-Senft.. Ferg is survived by his
half sister, Nancy Allan and half-brother, David Scott, and three step siblings. He was predeceased by his
mother Billie Lamb Down, his father, Ross Scott, adoptive father Alex Allan and step-father Jim Down as well
    as five step siblings.
The family wishes to thank a very special family friend, Ferg's "other daughter Chris". Chris Taylor stepped in
to provide whatever care was necessary to keep Mom and Dad in their home. At the same time she was their
connection to the community, passing on the comings and goings of the town. We are eternally in her debt.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation, Ducks Unlimited,
the MS Society ,or the Kinsmen Foundation Telemiracle.
