Obituary for Frederick Thomas "Fred" Altman

The family of Fred Altman are sad to announce his death on Tuesday, September 25, 2018. Fred was born in Mortlach, Sk. but spent most of his life on the farm just north of Tisdale. Fred was predeceased by his brother Joey, his brother-in-law Tracey and grandsons Jeffery and Bennett. He leaves to mourn his adored wife and partner in every adventure for the last 55 years, Linda, their five children, Kevin (Gail) Altman, Cindy (Rick) Ellacott, Russel Altman, Tricia (Trevor) Buhl and Trevor (Aimee) Altman, along with eight grandchildren, Brittany, Stacey, Tanya, Rachel, Isaac, Lexus, Micah and Bella. Also left to grieve are his three sisters, Rachel (Wilf) Petit), Laureen (Bill) Lawless, and Marge Clement as well as his sisters-in-law Hazel (Tom) Miller, Deborah Serack, and Ellen (Roger) Dolo, and his brother-in-law Irvin (Marina) Slager, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Fred was a man of many talents who gave of himself, his time and his energy to countless endeavors and adventures over the years. He loved nature and many adventures with him involved berry picking, fishing and hunting. As a young man he cooked in camps, worked the oil rigs, drove truck and eventually returned to the family farm. Raising a family on a small farm was challenging but Fred and Linda always found a way to provide for them working side by side. They made the difficult decision to sell the farmland and focus on Fred's Repair and Upholstery. Fred was also a man of strong faith and served faithfully as one of Jehovah's Witnesses following his baptism in 1954. He looked forward to the time when earth will be a paradise and all those we love and grieve will be resurrected to a life free from pain and sorrow. Rev. 21:3,4. He met numerous lifelong friends and made memories he treasured volunteering first in the convention kitchens and then later at the Kingdom Hall quick builds, where he operated the saw-shack for many years. Several summers were spent working unassigned territory with his family, camping in the bus. Fred spent his last several years residing at Carrot River Nursing Home followed by a brief residence at Pineview Lodge in Nipawin, Sk. Fred was truly loved by many and he will be sadly missed.
