Obituary for Wilbur Kenneth "Ken" Julien

    Wilbur Kenneth "Ken" Julien
Wilbur Kenneth Julien (KEN) was born on April 12, 1933 in Wadena Sask. to Arthur and Verna Julien. He grew up there with 4 sisters and a brother. During his youth he had many odd jobs. He became a quiet man, slow to anger but with a second nature to be helpful whether to family or friends and sometimes even to strangers. As a young man he came to the Connell Creek area to help with farming and logging. In the early 1950's he met Lydia Weldon. They were married on November 18, 1953. They spent some time moving around Saskatchewan and Alberta following available work. After the passing of infant son Kenneth in 1954, they settled in Aylsham working for Harry and Mary Larson and son Wilbur on their grain farm. Ken and Lydia's family increased in 1956 with Margaret and in 1958 with D'Wayne. This led to a lasting friendship with the Larson family and other friends in the area. In 1964 the family moved to Arborfield following the illness of Lydia's uncle Ernie Newton. Ken took over his job as caretaker at the school and remained there until his retirement in 1998. During his lifetime Ken was an avid fisherman taking his family often up to " the dam" to fish. He also enjoyed hunting, at first it was necessary skill but later it was more of a pleasure. He wasn't a dancer but took mom and the family to dances while he watched and enjoyed the music. Another of his favorite pastimes was a good card game with friends. Many enjoyable nights of cards have been spent with friends to pass the winter months. Ken, Lydia and family also enjoyed traveling and family vacations , there are quite a few photo albums of pictures to remind us of all our adventures. Ken was predeceased by his wife Lydia, infant son Kenneth, parents Art and Verna Julien , sisters Lourine and husband Earl Smith, Melba and husband Lloyd Meyers, brother Ernest, brothers-in-law Tom Extrom, Clarence Weldon, Bill LeGrand sisters-in-law Phyllis LeGrand and Deloris Weldon, Lydia's parents Shorty and Annie Weldon. Ken will be lovingly remembered by son D'Wayne, daughter Margaret Barney, grandchildren Trevor and Yvonne Barney, Amanda Barney, Sandra Barney and Scott Drader, great-grandchildren Abby and Riley Barney, sisters Marilyn Extrom, Deanna and Al Palmer, sister-in-law Doreen Julien Hack, also many nieces, nephews and cousins. He cherished the friends he made during his life and we are sure he will be remembered fondly by them all.
