Muriel Irene Ruether was born in Tisdale, Saskatchewan on August 21, 1924, only child of Joan and William Squires. She was raised on a farm 4 miles west of Bjorkdale, and attended Sunny Brow School.
Muriel married her childhood friend and neighbor, Garland Ruether, in 1947, after he was discharged from the army. They made their home in a log house one half mile south of her parents. Before long they had a home full of children. Muriel and Garland enjoyed hosting family and friends and going dancing. They made a good life on the farm and retired to town in 1979.
Muriel always loved spending time with family and was very involved in the community. She never missed a school , church, or legion event, and was forever travelling around the countryside to watch her grandchildren’s activities . In her younger years she had excelled in sports and has evidently passed that on throughout the generations. She was also an avid Roughrider fan. She loved to knit and crochet and all of her friends and family were beneficiaries of her handiwork.
Muriel was fortunate to remain in her home until the age of 91, when her health began to fail. She was a proud member of the community of Bjorkdale.
Muriel was predeceased by her husband Garland, and children Wayne and Marlene.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Karen, Corliss (John), Glenys (Pete), Colin (Bev) and Murray, son-in-law Doug; 14 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends.
