    Obituary for Vernon Andrus

    Vernon Andrus
Wilbur Vernon Andrus, age 78, of Tisdale, Saskatchewan, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2016, suddenly on the family farm. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 19, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at the St Paul’s United Church in Tisdale, Saskatchewan, with Reverend David MacPherson officiating. Interment will be held at Tisdale Cemetery immediately after the service, lunch to follow in the church basement.
Left to honor his memory are his loving wife of 46 years, Betty; his children Wendy (Lyle) Heinemann of Regina; Curtis (Angela) Andrus of Nipawin and children Simon and Joshua; Beverly (Kerry) Kowbel of Regina and children: Kyle, Colin, Jessica and Sean; Ed (Helen) Cowan of Edmonton and children Elizabeth Pereira (Kris) and son Ayden; and Edana; Shirley (Darrell) Hueser of Springside and children Jasmine Hueser (Chris Stadnyk) of Yorkton and son Jonathan, Kayla Hueser (Randy Stephanow) of Roblin and daughter Reese, and Ken Cowan of Saskatoon.
He also leaves to mourn his siblings, Marion, Ann, Bill (June), Janet Ubell, Barbara Jarrett, brother-in-law Bill Chegwin as well as numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Vernon was predeceased by his parents Wilbert and Florence, brother Luvurn, brothers-in-law Willie Ubell and Winston Jarrett, and grandson Jamie Cowan. He was also predeceased by his father-in-law Jim Chegwin, mother-in-law Gertrude Chegwin and brother-in-law James Chegwin.
Vernon was born in Star City, SK to Wilbert and Florence Andrus. He started school in Valparaiso and then finished high school in Tisdale. After high school he worked in Macleod’s in Tisdale for a year and then Bowman Brothers for seven years. He then went out to Prince George BC and logged for 2 years where he met two of his lifelong friends Nandy and Zolie Szucs. Vernon then returned to the Valparaiso area to begin farming with the family, where he met and married his lifelong partner, Betty Chegwin and raised their family on the farm. Vernon farmed with his brother Bill until his ‘retirement’ in 2004. It seemed liked farming was in his blood as he continued to work for the neighbours in spring and harvest until 2013. He especially enjoyed driving the new combines with all their ‘fancy contraptions’. He also loved curling, fishing, hunting, camping, baking, canning and gardening. He particularly loved their summers spent fishing and visiting with friends at Delaronde Lake and more recently the winters spent in Yuma Arizona at the Sundance Campground. He was best known for his fabulous chocolate fudge at Christmas and the best deviled eggs – every family gathering on the farm has a picture of Vernon in an apron at the stove. He treasured spending time with family and friends and cherished the time spent with his grandchildren whether it was in a hockey rink, at the ball diamond, rides on the tractor or teaching them how to drive in the golf cart.
