Obituary for Wilfred Alex Shiels

It is with great sadness and broken hearts we announce the passing of Wilfred Alex Shiels; a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and a friend to so many.

Wilfred was born near Eldersley, Saskatchewan on August 31, 1925 to Robert and Alice Shiels. He married Iola Bergman from the Chelan, Saskatchewan area on December 24, 1947. They had their first child, Garry in Cumberland, B.C. in 1949 and shortly afterward they returned to Saskatchewan and settled on their home quarter north of Steen. There they added to their family having two more children, Carol and Wayne. The 45 years in the Bjorkdale area were fulfilled by the many warm hearted friendships that developed. In 1995 they moved off the farm and settled in Tisdale, Saskatchewan where Wilfred remained until his passing on October 5, 2016. Much of his retirement years were spent camping and fishing, activities he thoroughly enjoyed.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Iola, his parents Robert and Alice, his sister, Hazel and his brothers; Raymond, Earl, Stanley, Harold and Keith.

Left to cherish Wilfred’s memory are his son, Garry (Louise) Shiels, Mistatim; grandson, Rick (Heather) Shiels, Saskatoon; granddaughter Tanya (Tom) Mitenko, Calgary; daughter Carol (Donald) Meszaros, Nipawin; granddaughter Patricia Meszaros, Saskatoon; granddaughter Anita Meszaros (Barry), Saskatoon; and son, Wayne (Tanis) Shiels, Warman, granddaughter, Tamara Shiels, Warman; and eight wonderful great grandchildren, brother-in-law George Bergman, brother-in-law Tex (Nola) Bergman, sister-in-law Deanna Harper, sister-in-law Joyce Shiels, sister-in-law Jean Shiels as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
