Obituary for Stan Crowley

With heavy hearts and deep sadness we announce the passing of Stan Crowley, beloved father, and grandfather, father-in-law and uncle, who passed away November 25, 2016 in Tisdale, Saskatchewan with loved ones at his side.

Stan was born in Glenside, Saskatchewan in 1930 to Hazel and Stanley Crowley who moved to Tisdale and established Park Service in 1949 as a service station and motel on the corner of Highway 3 and 35. For the next 48 years it would simply be known to many as “Crowley’s”. Park Service was sold in 1997 and Crowley’s Work Wear was opened on Main Street. For 63 years Stan loved going to work every day and still worked the odd shift until he was 82 years of age. He was keenly interested in the community of Tisdale and had its best interests at heart.

Stan Crowley married Phyllis Stephenson on May 23, 1952 and they were blessed with a wonderful life and 4 children: Gail, Blaine, Brian and Blair.

Phyllis and Stan had the fortune of great friendships their entire lives, and treasured time with them. They also spent a lot of time travelling and ventured as far as Hong Kong in the 70’s and Australia in the 90’s. Wherever their travels took them, they were sure to leave with new friends. They both had an inherent love for music, and were known for being the first ones on the dance floor, and the last ones to leave. Even if there was no dance floor.

Family time was always very important. In the early years they enjoyed many summers at their cabin at Kipabiskau Lake and later on at Greenwater Lake with their grandchildren.
He was also an avid sports fan who never missed a televised Blue Jays or Roughriders game. He knew every player and wasn’t afraid to do a little “arm chair coaching”. Being of Irish descent, he was sure to be found celebrating on St. Patrick’s Day.

Stan is predeceased by his wife, Phyllis, and is survived by children: Gail Crowley of Tisdale, SK, Blaine (Laura) Crowley of Nipawin, SK, Brian (Kelly Sullivan) Crowley of Kelowna, BC and Blair (Penny) Crowley of Tisdale SK. His grandchildren: Mason Wilvert, Erin (Rob Howland) Crowley of Victoria, BC, Braeden Crowley of Tisdale, SK and Geordie Crowley of Kelowna, BC; brothers and sisters: Lois (Magnus), Margaret (Jelinski), Evelyn (Bardal), Sharon (Marsh) and Doug Crowley. He also leaves many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Until the very end he maintained his sense of humour, and his ability to vividly remember the many details of every trip, every family story, every customer, and every comical event that happened throughout his lifetime. This in itself is truly inspiring and a testament that his life, and all the people in it, had been fulfilling.

Stan was a gentleman, and a man of character. He was very loved, and will be so terribly missed.

A private family service will be held.

Donations in his memory to the SPCA are gratefully acknowledged.

And all other times smile
And now, smile a smile for me….
