    Obituary for Therese Marie Groat

    Therese Marie Groat
Therese Groat (nee Casavant) was born December 17, 1925 on the family farm in the Tisdale District. She was from a large family with 11 siblings. She went to Arpsville School near Valparaiso. She met Raymond Groat at the age of 15. With WW11 in progress they were married November 19, 1943, before Raymond was sent overseas. Their first child Joan was born while Raymond was away. When he returned they settled in Tisdale. Therese and Raymond had five more children: Laureen, Myrtle, Lois, Christopher and Patricia.
She was a homemaker first of all; sewing, knitting, gardening and canning. Her love of the Lord and commitment to the Catholic Church was important. She was a founding member of the CWL and received a 50 year pin, she served on the parish council, the Rex Mundi Camp Board and was a church librarian and archivist. Therese was the secretary for the Pasquia Pro-Life for many years.
Therese was also very community minded, she received the Saskatchewan Volunteer Service Medal in 2005. She also received the Citizen of the Year from the Tisdale Chamber of Commerce in 2005. She was the recipient of the Angus Campbell Medal for work in the field of addictions in 2004. Nominated and received Canada 150 medal for volunteerism as well. She was active in the AA group, always helping and sponsoring when needed.
Therese faith was the foundation of her life and her greatest love was her family; children, 17 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren. She is lovingly remembered as GGG (Great Grandma Groat).
She was predeceased by her husband Raymond, parents Emile and Emelda Casavant, daughter and son-in-law Laureen & Bud Reese, great grandson Jordan, sons-in-law Wally Burroughs and David Martens and granddaughter Theresa.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Joan, Myrt (Don), Lois (Dennis), Chris (Bonnie) and Pat (Jerry); all her grandchildren and their families; sisters Marie (Ron) Francis, Leah and brother Eugene (Lorette) and sister-in-law Barb; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Donations may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association or Pasquia Pro-Life as a token of remembrance
