Obituary for Carey Leon Nakonieczny

Carey Leon Nakonieczny was born on February 4, 1968 to parents Leon and Aniela Nakonieczny; he was the youngest of four brothers. Carey spent his adolescent years on the family farm and attending school in Bjorkdale. He was there his love for farming and tending to animals began to grow. Although he enjoyed learning; Carey’s heart was never with school. Carey left school in grade 11. His passion always fell toward working with his hands; as he had become accustomed to growing up.
Carey met Tracey in 1986 and shortly thereafter their love blossomed. They formed a union and to them came three children: Ricky, Lerissa and Logan. Through anything they stood together. To each other they were informally known as “ma and pa”. You would rarely find them apart; Tracey only recalling two of those times, otherwise, you could find her alongside of him; from Eastern or Western Canada and then back home in Bjorkdale. Tracey and Carey were together 32 years and married for 25 years.
Carey was a jack of all trades and a master of none; some included scarifying, carpentry, road construction, running heavy equipment etc. As years passed, Carey had various jobs. Some of these jobs took him east to Ontario and then back to west Alberta. He then settled back in Saskatchewan just outside of Tisdale. In 1997 he relocated the family even closer to home on a piece of farmland just outside of Bjorkdale; for his great love of farming. Carey was working for the town of Tisdale before he fell ill. Through his work there he created many friendships.
You would rarely find Carey in the house even in the most inclement weather. He was most often outside. He took great pride in his yard and loved to tinker away on mechanical projects of any kind. If not at home he would be checking the cows or helping the neighbors. Whether he was pulling his own children out of the ditch or a stranger on the side of the road; Carey made time for anyone. His kindness and large heart always directed him into assisting those in need. Carey often joked he should start his own tow service. Although he provided a service he always turned down money. He found payment in knowing that family, friends and strangers were safe and on their way to where they need to go.
On July 2, 2019, Carey was diagnosed with Metastatic Pancreatic Cancer. He chose to take chemotherapy in the hopes of slowing the cancer down. Carey fought a courageous battle for three and half months; Carey passed away peacefully from this life on the morning of October 9, 2019 in Melfort Hospital with Tracey and Logan by his side.
Carey is predeceased by his father Leon Nakonieczny, father-in-law Nick Fulmes and sister-in-law Michelle Andres.
Left to cherish his memory is his mother Aniela, wife Tracey, sons: Ricky (Dominique) and Logan, daughter Lerissa (Louis); as well as his brothers: John (Ada), Edward (Iliona) and Richard (Brenda); and mother-in-law Dorothy Fulmes; his memory will also be left to honor by his many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
