Obituary for Garland Ralph Berg

Garland was born in 1932, on the family homestead near Silver Park, Saskatchewan to Ralph and Thelma (Tyacke) Berg. Garland attended Silver Park School, Windigo School, and Pleasantdale School with his siblings, Doris, Harvey and Dennis. The family moved to Weekes, Saskatchewan, when Garland was 15 years old.
Garland held a variety of jobs in his lifetime. While he was still in school, he worked for his uncle on a threshing crew bringing in the fall harvest. Garland also worked for Sask Wheat Pool doing construction, at Nobleville School as a teaching assistant, in a bush camp in Prince George B.C., and on a line-crew in Alberta. Despite the many jobs that took Garland to different places, he always returned to help Ralph with the harvest. In 1957 Garland started as a lineman with Sask Power and stayed with the company for 36 years.
Garland married Donnelda (Donna) Alice Coleridge on March 30, 1962. Garland and Donna welcomed 3 daughters (Cindy, Brenda & Kyla). In the early years, the family lived in a mobile home, moving around Saskatchewan in summer to sites where Garland worked for Sask Power Construction and spending the winters in Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
In 1966 the family lived in Wynyard and later that year moved to Porcupine Plain. Garland continued to work for Sask Power as a Lineman, eventually District Operator. In the early 1970’s he and Donna purchased land south of Porcupine Plain. They spent many years on the farm until eventually moving to Tisdale in 2000. After retirement Garland and Donna managed the Green Hills Golf Course at Greenwater Lake for 3 summers.
Garland was a hard-working, energetic, friendly and positive person with a great sense of humour. Garland's joys in life included spending time with family and friends, tinkering in his shop, travelling, fishing, golfing, curling, camping, hunting, and horseback riding. He especially enjoyed the winters in Arizona, hiking in the desert, and their time with friends while they were there.
Garland was predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Thelma Berg, father-in-law Francis and mother-in-law Dorothy Coleridge, brother-in-law Sonny Hodgson, bother Dennis Berg, sister-in-law Pat Berg, nephews Kelly and Corey Berg, great-nephew Dylan Berg, brother-in-law Allan Coleridge, sister-in-law Jean Coleridge, brother-in-law Donald Coleridge, and niece Shelly Coleridge.
Forever loved and remembered by his wife Donna, daughters Cindy Berg (Cliff Fletcher), Brenda Logan, Kyla (Bryan) Young, grandchildren Devan Logan (Toni), Tyson Young (Chantelle), Megan Logan (Jonathan), Bailey (Dejan) Dobric, great-grandchildren: Charlotte, Deklin, Hunter, Evelyn, and Jonathan; sister Dorsis Hodgson, brother Harvey (Donna) Berg; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
