Obituary for Vivian Lloyd "Viv" Rutherford

It is with heavy hearts that we mark the passing of our dear dad, Vivian, age 90, at Nipawin Hospital on January 22, 2020.
Vivian Lloyd Rutherford was born on August 24, 1929 in Tisdale. He was the youngest of seven siblings. The family resided in Golburn until 1936 when they moved the homestead near Carrot River. Viv was schooled in the Bell Boy District where he completed the 8th grade. He worked for various farmers in the area and spent the winters logging in Northern Manitoba and Ontario.
In the early 50’s, Viv moved to Tisdale where he drove a local taxi. On April 2, 1954, Vivian married Pauline Skiehar. Together they raised 5 children.
Viv worked for various companies driving truck to haul water, mail and fuel. In 1973, he purchased the Shell Bulk Sales and worked there until his retirement.
Pauline died suddenly in May 1983. Viv continued to work hard and spent his spare time at slo-pitch and minus 1 dance’s. It was there that he met Helen Morton. After retiring in 1995, Viv and Helen enjoyed many years on the old time dance circuit in Western Canada. Viv also joined the Nipawin Legion and was an active member until his death. He looked forward to his moving coffee and cards at the seniors centre in Codette. His final years were spent living in Nipawin. After Helen’s passing in June 2019, dad’s own health declined rapidly.
Vivian was predeceased by his wife Pauline; partner Helen; sisters: Vi Leffler, Eva Saurs, Ellyn Cunningham, Irene Reed and Marj Howarth; a brother John; and son-in-law Glen Payne.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Janet & Larry Gallagher (Peter, Sean and Laurie); Brian & Anne Rutherford (Mitch, Megan, Jill, Jon and Josh); Monte Rutherford; Patsy Payne (Mike, Wendy, Paul and Janice); Lloyd & AnnMarie Rutherford (Colton and Chase); as well as 16 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Viv lived a good example for his family and treated others with kindness and respect. Viv helped when he was able and in his own way. This was, in essence, our Dad, Grandpa, Uncle and Friend.
Celebration of life will be held Friday, January 31, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the Tisdale Civic Centre, Tisdale, Saskatchewan. Donations may be made to the Nipawin Hospital or the Royal Canadian Legion as a token of remembrance.
