Obituary for Eileen Louise Godson
Eileen Louise Godson (nee Luck) passed away April 22, 2020.
Eileen was born April 8th, 1926 in Tisdale, the first child of Dollie (Harpham) and Percy Luck, and she grew up on the family farm in the Salopian District. After finishing high school in Tisdale, Eileen spent one summer at Normal School in Saskatoon before returning to school, this time as a teacher. Eileen continued taking summer courses between teaching assignments until she attained her teaching certificate. She was teaching at Eastman school when she met Ernest “Bud” Godson, a local farmer, and they were married July 16,1951. Their first son Dale was born in 1958, but tragically, Bud succumbed to cancer just before Brent was born in 1961. Demonstrating courage and perseverance, Eileen worked selflessly to provide for her sons and see them through University. She later moved into the town of Tisdale, working at income tax preparation, which she continued to do for a few special clients into her nineties. Her skill at accounting was also helpful during her long term as Treasurer of St. Matthew’s Anglican Church. Eileen expressed her creative side in cake decoration, providing many beautiful wedding, birthday and anniversary cakes to family, friends and their often far-flung connections. She was an active independent person until 2017, when she had to move into long-term care. She recently had her 94th birthday before she passed away at Luther Special Care Home in Saskatoon. Eileen was a kind and courteous person whose quick and sincere smile, whether meeting a friend on the street or greeting a care worker in the home, was sure to elicit a reciprocal response.
Eileen continues to be loved and fondly remembered by her sons and their families, Dale and Sarah with Alice and Ben, and Brent and Bev with Ethan and Liv, her sister Dorothy (Clif) Benning, her sister-in-law Fran Mooney, as well as all her nieces and nephews, and many relatives and friends. She was thankful for the support provided by Karren and Larry Baird in the last few years.
Eileen was predeceased by her father Percy and mother Dollie, her husband Bud, her brother Murray and his wife Muriel, her brother Larry, her mother-in-law and father-in-law Violet and Bill Godson, her sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Terry and Tom Edgington, and Arnold Mooney.
The family plans to have a memorial service at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Saint Matthew’s Anglican Church, Box 1225 Tisdale, Saskatchewan, S0E 1T0, or a charity of your choice.
