Obituary for Gerald George Curtis

Gerald George Curtis was born January 25, 1934 – the second eldest son of Wilfred and Marie Curtis (Broeckel). Jerry grew up on the family farm at Guelph Ontario. He often recalled stories of getting out of school early in the afternoon. He, Rance and Joe would go to the local swimming hole for the afternoon instead of going home. Very often they were met with a bit of trouble when they arrived home at the regular time as their cousin would have went straight home. The Aunt would phone over to say how nice it was that the kids were out of school early – so Grandma was often waiting for them.
Around the age of 17, he and a friend headed West where he worked in forestry in BC, helped build a grain elevator in Canora, Sk and harvested in Star City, Sk.
He met and married Verna Greaves in Dec 1956. Verna & Jerry moved to Canora for the winter and then back to Star City. He also worked on road construction in the Rimbey area for a while with his brothers Rance and Joe. He worked for the Wilson family farming and later worked at Massey Ferguson in Tisdale for years as a mechanic. Jerry owned his own D7 cat for many years, clearing land and logging. He also did a lot of road work around Saskatchewan – often in the far north – where the highway in and out was on a frozen lake. He later worked at the Tisdale Dehy and Dept of Highways until retirement. After retirement he kept himself busy working with Keith and Kevin Edmunds and Schapansky Auctions.
Over the years their little family grew; George was born in May 1957 and passed at 3 days old, Marilyn (Richard Dusener) was born in June 1960. Beverly was born in Rimbey, AB in Oct 1961. She passed in January of 1962. Don was born in Oct 1963, Allen was born in March 1967 and finally Ross (Loretta) was born in June 1968. Verna and Jerry have 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and he enjoyed all of them. The grand children often spent summers at Grandpa and Grandmas and had many adventures with their grandparents.
Jerry is predeceased by his parents, son George, daughter Bev, brothers Joe, Winston and Rance, sister June and grandson Curtis.
He always showed patience and kindness. His family has the utmost respect and love for him and we will miss him dearly.
