Obituary for Elizabeth Margaret Muriel "Liz" Gurbach

Elizabeth Margaret Muriel Gurbach, age 70, passed away peacefully December 1, 2020 with Marvin, her husband of 51 years, Darryl and Trina, her beloved children, at her side. She was born April 7, 1950 on the Kapeller farm East of Arborfield, Saskatchewan to Harold and Elizabeth Stonehouse. She was the second youngest of eight children. She met Marvin Louis Gurbach in April of 1968 and they were married in Porcupine Plain Anglican Church on April 12, 1969. They soon moved to Tisdale where they welcomed Darryl Marvin on May 30, 1970, and Trina Louise on December 26, 1972.
She worked babysitting until 1976 so she could be a stay at home Mom until her children started school. She began working in retail sales at Macleods. She worked as a sales associate with SAAN from 1986 to 2000. She was the manager of the Tisdale SAAN from 1995 to 2000. Liz enjoyed working and her staff looked up to her. They weren’t just “staff”, they were “family”. She had to resign due to health problems.
Liz loved her family so much and her hands were rarely still. She made precious quilts for her granddaughters and mended whatever they asked her to do. Family meals were prepared with so much love and each member got their own special treat.
For many years she volunteered at St. Matthews Anglican Church. Her faith was strong even after her health would not allow her to attend regular services. Her life was a living example of the Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32 — “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”
Elizabeth is survived by her husband, Marvin, son, Darryl (Katherin); granddaughters, Kelsey (Kyle) and Alyssa; daughter, Trina; brothers, George(Velma) Stonehouse, Harold (Carol) Stonehouse, Ronald (Cathy)Stonehouse; sisters, Mary Horvath, Pearl (Steve) Shufflada , Shirley Tuleta and her many nephews and nieces. All of these she loved and touched deeply. She is predeceased by her parents, Harold and Elizabeth Stonehouse and her brother Earl Stonehouse.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Lung Association or The Heart and Stroke Foundation in her honor.
