A man of God and deep faith, Gordon Bryan Cresswell went home peacefully to his Lord and Saviour on February 28, 2023, surrounded by his family, after courageously battling an inoperable brain tumor for more than twenty years.

Gordon was born to Lewis and Dollie Cresswell on November 25, 1942 in Tisdale, Saskatchewan. He attended Willow Hill School, then came to Tisdale for high school, but was unable to complete his grade 12, being called to help at the farm due to his father’s failing health. However, this never stopped Gordon from learning, as he later completed the Agribusiness Management Development Program through the University of Saskatchewan and obtained his Futures Commission Merchant designation from the Winnipeg Commodity Exchange. This enabled him to teach option trading courses to farmers for many winters in the late 80’s early 90’s. During his tenure with the Kelsey Trail Health Region he received his Professional Directorship Certificate from Brown Governance and the Johnson & Shoyana Graduate School of Public Policy.

One cool autumn evening, Gordon spied a lovely, curly haired young girl (Lynn Nagel), walking down the street in Tisdale. After Lynn graduated from high school, they were married on October 3, 1964, to whom four children were born. Times were tough in the early years and Gordon worked several jobs to make ends meet while farming. They included driving school bus, working at the Ford dealership and the radiator shop and driving the mail truck. His passion for agriculture continued throughout his entire life.

Gordon helped shape western Canadian grain production, transportation and marketing for more than a quarter century. He made significant contributions with his work on various boards including the Saskatchewan Canola Growers Association, Western Canadian Flax Growers, Western Canadian Wheat Growers, Canola Council of Canada, United Grain Growers Corporate Board, and Saskatchewan Pulse Growers. Gordon was mentored by many in the agriculture industry and built many lifelong friendships.

Gordon was often asked to chair many agriculture committees in Ottawa, as he was known as a consensus builder. This led to opportunities to travel on many trade missions with the federal government representing producers across the prairies.

Gordon was a strong community man, contributing his leadership for many community organizations including, health, municipal, political, education, Tisdale Credit Union, church, Day Camps (founding member), comedic roles at the Sylvania Dinner theatre, or playing Santa at many community events in Sylvania and Tisdale.

No matter what Gordon achieved on a professional level, he considered his greatest accomplishment to be his family and grandchildren. You would always find him attending their many sporting, air cadet and dance events. He also helped many of his grandchildren learn to ride a bike and gave them all ample opportunity to ride along in all the equipment on the farm. He instilled his love of the farm into each of his grandchildren.

Gordon was also known for his creative, mechanical and fabricating skills. He was a “jack of all trades” and could fix anything. He once made a home built stone picker which was used for many years. He passed this knowledge onto his children and grandchildren. Gordon was also an avid reader and loved to travel, taking him to almost every continent in the world.

Gordon is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lynn; his children, Ruth (Daryl), Benett, Jackson Howes; Mark (Cathy), Matthew, Allison, Ryan, Heather Cresswell; Patricia (Brad), Logan, Brett Hughes; and Bryan (Crystal), Baylee, Brock, Axle, Luke Cresswell and the grandkids’ special friends; his sister Wilma Cresswell; brother and sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews and his loyal canine companion Mickey.

Predeceased by his parents, Lewis and Dollie Cresswell, brother Howard Cresswell, in-laws Frank and Marion Nagel.
